Ideal Bread East Coast November Shows–Philly, Baltimore, NYC!!!

Below is the blurb Josh sent out about some upcoming Ideal Bread shows. I’ve been very honored to be performing with this band for the past 10 months. We’ve recorded a double CD in that time, set to come out on Cuneiform Records in the Spring. The band sounds great…I can say without hesitation that these will be three VERY fun shows!

ideal bread is preparing to play a series of shows on the east coast this fall. during these shows, they’ll be playing pieces from their new book of tunes, “beating the teens.” this book is a departure from their typical approach of faithful adaptation and represents a series of “recompositions” of lacy’s music. sinton specifically chose for this the music that lacy recorded for the saravah label from 1971-1977 and that was reissued as the box set “scratching the seventies/dreams.” in this large and expansive take on the tradition of small-ensemble creative music, sinton has written arrangements that take their cues from the worlds of anthony braxton, wynton marsalis, john cage, iggy pop and mos def among others. pieces like “dreams” will be familiar to longtime fans while lesser known tunes like “scraps” have been reconfigured to suit the current musical landscape. these will be concerts to engage the mind and the heart.

“while ideal bread is drawing its template from lacy, when it comes to the lengthy improvised sections, all four members carve out their own turf.  ****1/2″ – peter margasak – downbeat magazine
